Origin and Purpose

The objectives of the BiscayTIK Foundation as an organisation are to support all activities necessary for the furtherance of knowledge in administrative practices and technologies connected with serving the needs of citizens through communication technologies, with the aim of giving the public greater online access to the public authorities.

Now is the perfect time for this, given the following circumstances:

• Broadband Internet access available to practically the entire population of Biscay.
• Widespread use of the Internet in homes and increase in daily usage.
• Secure identity verification and electronic signature over the Internet by means of a number of cards currently in use: ONA (electronic health card), DNIe (electronic ID card), etc.
